GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

Michael Jackson, This is it...will restore your faith in the greatest performer of all time. Will bring to light the truth in the accusations by a consumer society, and it's methods to control the medium (pop music) which reaches the most people on the planet....and the message it contains. "Buy buy buy, consume at all costs, rat race with most toys wins" in it's auto tuned shiny voice it blings. By demonizing a man, MJ, to the point where we disregard his message, the same message of all great, persecuted profits, be them; staked to crosses, shot in streets or media sculpted into child hurting monsters, the media attempted to make Michael someone we could never bring ourselves to listen to in good conscience.
His message: oneness, unity, faith, and love for every one and everything! Above all else his new tour was set up to bring global attention to the condition of our planet which consumerism is destroying.....wrapped in a voice and man who had the mannerism and truth of a child, a man whose truthful nature mad him an easy target....a man of true greatness, in a talent, which is
the truest reflection of gods painting skills, one that brings joy, sheds light, and unites a togetherness that may take us away from their shiny toys....MJ's light still shines bright in this movie.. please watch it...burkey

Izzz a music time?

Rob Hurt

Music Video Notes:

On location in Austria, Vokab Kompany and Staff chose to use a smaller budget with this film production. "I felt it really created a dynamic between us and the home viewer where we both are one and yet a million tiny particles moving through space and time, but where space and time no longer exist and thus become one. But they are still different and unique. And also the same. But a little different." says self nominated film producer Xavier Francis VanBurgdennonen.

Burkey's response to Robbiesblog "Not Drama, Emotion"

While i appreciate my partners words of wisdom, I totally disagree with the Kanye comments. I feel he is a poser, with little emotion and all drama. His actions at the MTV music awards, well, It's a vote show... and if people acted how they felt at these, it would do away with them all together. It would be chaos, cuz everybody has their idea who should win...Kanye is a show off and bully, and he disrespected the music industry and it's fans by putting his opinion above those who voted, in fact by doing that he is stating that his opinion is better than everyone elses. In music there is no right and wrong, as it is based on opinion and taste. In sports there most certainly is a rt and wrong.....and Serena, well she was being real...the call was wrong and it cost her a championship.... Every sports caster in America agreed that it was a bad call, and the video clearly shows that the judge was wrong...as for both Mj's, bob and i agree on the king of pop, he was the greatest performer who never got a chance to be a person....and Jordan, that fire was what made him the best and must be hard to put out...Go celtics 2010 booyaaaa.

Not Drama, Emotion.

Jordan, Serena, Kanye...

All successful, all professionals and all role models in their chosen profession. But overall, they're all human. And acting very real.

Jordan's H.O.F. speech was a tad funny and raw, while Serena was a little scary. And then Kanye... well to me that was Kanye, for better or worse. At first I was like, "damn, why's he always so bitter. I'm sure Beyonce can stick up for herself. And if not, her man is Jigga. "

My truth is, I know it's great to show humbleness, professionalism, and be the bigger man but, often emotions take over and the truest of feelings shall emerge. That's real emotion. Not some conjured up media magic made up of make-up and molded into a "ready, aim, shoot me I'm on film for perfection" look.

Of course these awards and competitions are an honor and I am not saying acting like a child is ok. It's just nice to see raw emotion arise. Especially on a network like MTV where Music Television just doesn't fit into our attention span any more. It needs to be more of a "reality" program. Ya know, 16, 18, 20 yr olds in bars, clubs, new porsche, Uptown Manhattan flats where the word "Socialite" is a career goal now and further, you can actually get paid.

Me bitching... not often. But a little sick of my mislead youth, little brothers and sisters, ones I do feel compelled to germinate with some snips of what I think I know so far. Yeah, gotta long way to grow and go and seeing a few whiners being human this weekend actually motivated me to blah blah. Hide in a blog...? perhaps. But I am gonna put this on my Facebook and Myspace, and facespace and all other "socialite" networks where the topic is often "me me me" and see see see what we we we can do to maybe shake it up a bit.

The best thing I saw, heard, read this weekend was from one respected musician to another (on MTV, I know?).

On Michael Jackson's passing.- “All I could think about in that moment was I had abandoned him. That we had abandoned him. That we had let this magnificent creature who had once set the world on fire slip through the cracks. Most of us had turned our backs on him. … There will never be anyone like him again. He was a king.” - Madonna

Man on Fire

A yearn to burn baby. With most of the crew in route and a few fistfuls already stationed and set-up, the rest of us are crawling up the coast.

Direction headed? North and East
Location desired? Black Rock City
Reason? 99, but a chick ain't one

My 2nd year attending, and my co-pilots 5th. The experience is unlike any I've ever had. I can't really explain the; family, fortune, fun, future, and filth one indulges in. It's something everyone should see and try for themselves so they can form their own, real, opinion. My girl and I had the opp to go together last year. It made us.

What else did I do?.. well it's never enough, and prob not enough room to scribble in this blog. Honestly there is no reason for me to sell it, you either make the decision to go or you don't. I was however, fortunate enough to rock the stage w/ The Mutaytor and our great Suze Q and Jen Jen (of Cirque Berzerk) last year. Opportunities spawn from that of which we are eternally grateful for.

We met a slew of terrific people whom we now consider CREW. The plan is to bring the collective group all together at what we call Camp Pep. Location...? ask around for Vokab Kompany and the Pepperoos!

Playa bound and down. Seeya when we return.. or perhaps...

Back to the Streets

Year two and back snug where she belongs, San Diego's Street Scene is already buzzin bigger than last years excitement when our sun city announced our largest most awesomest music event will return to it's original home, the streets.

You could not really have a music event so avant garde labeled Qualcomm Stadium parking lot in Mission Valley Scene or Coors, now Cricket Wireless Amphitheater Scene. Obviously these venues proved the streets is where she belongs when attendance dropped off like the Octomom's Minivan.

We all went last year and the combination of pavement, sidewalks and large buildings surrounding us like rubber walls with some of the best music bouncing off, up and in between made me feel like a kid skipping through Disneyland on wild mushrooms.

We'll be back, and this year reppin' some of our best and newz including- Bassnectar, Cage the Elephant, Girltalk, Public Enemy, MIA, Ozomatli, along with SD locals Dirty Sweet, Delta Spirit, Anya Maria, and mo!

Hope your Vk's will be able to proudly rep the concrete of SD here soon, but for now...
We'll see you on the Streets.

SDMA's We've been nominated!

And so it seems after some hard work, a few fistfuls of shows in SD, and a couple of those "it's not what ya know but perhaps who ya know" conversations... we've been nominated for an award.

The award you ask, (bass roll please), BEST HIP HOP.

So please vote and spread the werds about town, city, country, and world. It is after all, a small one. But on the contrary, the honor and win would be HUGE for us. We love SD, love the beach and ocean, love the local motion and wave of life we've chosen to subscribe to. For now it seams, fate will have us wait.

So good luck us and VOTE HERE!

Remember it's not WHAT you know...

While it does give you your definition in the modern world, there are scores of those that know the same stuff.....How you know it is as irrelevant as a detail in a story, icing but not the cake....Why has so many reasons, most of which you never know till that moment comes, which makes for a good smile or gasping shimmer of relief, and while that particular when is so rewarding, it's as unpredictable as where is circumstantial, and often times just pure luck.....So it boils down to who. WHO do we know that's got what we need. That can turn what we have into something of worth, give us a reason for why we have it, and more importantly when, where and how we can use it. May I continue to Who who with you night owls who have given me mine, and daily beez blessed to knowzja.

America the Teacher

America, American. An image here, a mirrored trend.
A pal-o-mine once told me truth. He said it bold, he showed me proof.
He asked me why I like to live. What made me tick, what made me give.
He showed me media, and tv too. He showed me clothes, the ones on you.
He asked about my favorite things. The ones I buy, the ones I bring.
We gathered all and in a pile, we placed my life and stared a while.
And all this stuff I knew was truth, that piled to the ceiling roof.
I called these things my prized possessions. They made me smile. They gave me presence.
Identified the man I am, was on the floor now in his hands.
Then as he lit a match and looked, I stared at him my hands they shook.
"I thought my land was what I make it. These things I gathered for my taking."
He looked at me, a smile cracked. "America to you", he laughed.
Now off he went in hopes I learn. A tiny spark, a fire burned.
I heard it sizzle, pop and crackle. But when he walked, the sound of shackles.
Not looking back, I heard him say, "Thats the sound of us men, working on our change."

As we slowly grow, we learn it's not just about giving thanks for our freedom, but how we use it.

Tahoe my Teacher, Family my Guide

Children are all foreigners.
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)

While an adolescent, there were certain struggles I faced, as does any lower-middle class family. However, my pot of gold was blood. Fortunate enough to sprout from a mom who built our lives using the most primitive of tools, a sister who was (and is still) my hero, and a little brother who I felt compelled to germinate. Without knowing it then, family was the North Star subtly guiding my lost ship.

But alas, villainous influences lingered about and at times were a more powerful catalyst.

Budding in a sleepy mountain town where the local economy thrived off wealthy outlanders and California contemporary white collars (most from the Silicon Valley). These self-made successors who enjoyed vacation homes for summer and winter gaming, were oblivious. Often us locals felt it our duty to prove that these "aliens" couldn't just come and go as they please, capitalizing on Tahoe's natural resources we so generously let them borrow with our hearts, and fists...

And thus we battled. Kings of the Hill. Not ever with manufactured weapons from man, but with the ones the big guy blessed us with, our hands! Defenders of the kingdom we loved but wished offered more. Perhaps we were just jealous of them and most certainly unappreciative of it's beauty they used it for.

Regretfully there were times when we were more the "brow beaters" picking on the happy-go-lifers who were just trying to enjoy their financial success in our town. But no matter, we let all know none were except from meeting the locals.

The town we defended... our mountainous Tahoe. Molded from ice the size of small continents.

Tahoe my teacher.

Family my guide.

-Rob
